나전칠기는 얇은 조개껍데기를 여러 형태로 오려 사물의 표면에 붙이는 칠공예의 장식기법입니다. 이 기법은 한국, 중국, 일본에서 발달하였으며, 이 작업은 한국의 나전칠기 기법과 재료를 조사하여 3D 텍스쳐와 오브젝트로 재현한 것입니다. 한국에서 나전칠기는 고려시대부터 현재까지(약 11세기부터 현재) 가구나 물건 혹은 미술 작품에 활용되고 있습니다. 타입1번 오브젝트는 실제로 존재하는 한국의 유물을 그대로 재현한 것이고, 나머지 두 개는 나름대로의 상상력으로 구현해 본 것입니다. 한국에서 주로 사용되는 조개의 종류 중 몇가지를 패턴으로 서브스탠스 디자이너에서 제작하였고, 색과 형태 그리고 제작 방식에 따라 텍스쳐를 바꿀 수 있게 옵션들을 만들었습니다.
Najeon Chilgi (lacquerware inlaid with Nacre, a.k.a mother-of-pearl) is a traditional Korean craft technique that uses very thin layers of shells that are applied on the surface of an object. Najeon Chilgi technique has been practiced throughout North East Asian countries such as Korea, China and Japan. For more than a thousand years, from 11c until the present, Najeon Chilgi is used in a wide range of crafts, such as furnitures, ornaments, and even in Fine Arts.
